Dr. Wendy Masi established the Love Jen Fund as a living legacy to her daughter Jennifer, who lost her 11-year battle with cancer. Understanding the tremendous emotional and financial burden for families of gravely ill children, she wanted to provide educational, therapeutic, recreational, and emergency financial assistance to families whose children were being treated in the Pediatric Oncology Specialty Center at the Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital.
The Annual Love Jen Family Festival was the vehicle for this assistance. For the past 16 years, Dr. Masi has solicited donations and volunteered her time to organize and run the festival, as well as coordinate holiday celebrations and other special events that help patients and their families celebrate successes and bring joy to difficult situations. Dr. Masi understood that these special events would help patients and families cope with their journey through treatment. Over the years, her efforts have raised nearly $2 million for the benefit of pediatric cancer patients and their families.
The Annual Love Jen Family Festival and other special events have provided opportunities for nearly 3,000 patients and families to celebrate successes and enjoy being a child without the burdens of coping with cancer. Each year, nearly 700 patients and families benefit directly from the Love Jen Fund's emergency financial assistance program. Through Dr. Masi's generosity and commitment, thousands of children and families in South Florida have received invaluable support during their difficult journey with a loved one stricken with cancer.
