Maureen Cavaiola
59 - Severna Park, MD
Believing that everyone should be able to age with dignity, Maureen Cavaiola created Partners In Care, an organization that uses a service-exchange concept to support seniors and disabled adults. When a volunteer member performs a service, they receive credit hours that can be banked for later use, donated to another person, or credited to a general pool. By contributing their time and talents, Partners In Care members can tap assistance when they need it.

Services provided by program volunteers include transportation to medical appointments, grocery shopping, light household repairs, yard work, and friendly visits. Everyone has something to contribute and is valued for it.

Maureen is a valuable asset to Partners In Care, because she has excelled in creating partnerships and determining the niches in the community that needed to be filled. In 1999, she established a resale boutique to help subsidize the organization. With no prior retail experience, Maureen leads the boutique, manages its 80 volunteers, and has significantly increased its revenues over the years, which fund the transportation and other organization services.

Partners In Care currently works with 2,400 members, organizing volunteers for over 20,000 hours of service in the community annually. Some volunteers provide arm-in-arm transportation, picking up a member at their front door, taking them to an appointment, waiting and bringing them home, often stopping for prescriptions or groceries on the way. This all-volunteer program provides $366,000 worth of direct service each year, giving nearly 70 weekly rides. That's why Maureen is a 2007 Woman Of Worth.
