For What It's Worth

In December, 2009, I had the joy and privilege to meet my fellow Women of Worth honorees in New York. As we shared our stories,
a common theme emerged. When faced with a problem that troubled us, we did something about it. We took a step. And then another.
Maybe it was like clearing a path to the solution only to be surprised later to hear people call us trailblazers.
Truth is--for me--I found something I felt passionate about, and wanted to lend a hand in any way I could.

Being a Parent

I feel blessed to be among 10 phenomenal women being honored for our volunteer service in the community. I just keep saying to myself, "Wow - I am just a parent!" But, others have helped me realize that I am more than "just a parent". I am an involved parent of three, who has taken my life experiences - of being a single mom, with a special needs son, and whose children attended one of the worst performing schools in the state and became the change I wanted to see in my community.
